APPLICATIONS

Wildfire sensing

Early-warning sensor grids across remote forestland with no power or communications infrastructure.

← All applications

Wildfire sensing grids typically cover hundreds to low thousands of hectares of forestland with smoke, gas, temperature and wind nodes spaced to give early warning well before a fire reaches a populated area. Battery nodes relay alarms hop by hop across kilometers of terrain to a single satellite or LTE gateway at the network's edge, so no single node needs its own long-haul connection. Because nodes run for years unattended, the network keeps watching terrain that would otherwise see a technician once a season, if that.

THE CHALLENGE

The terrain that most needs early smoke detection has no power, no cellular and no roads.

THE MESH SOLUTION

Long-life battery nodes blanket the forest and relay alarms across kilometers to a satellite or LTE gateway.

TYPICAL DEVICES

  • Smoke / gas sensors
  • Temperature & wind sensors
  • Camera trigger nodes
  • Satellite gateways
