The umesq mesh protocol

The umesq protocol is a fully decentralized wireless mesh, purpose-built for battery-powered sensors and actuators. Nodes discover each other, form the network and keep it running with no coordinator, no site survey and no mains-powered infrastructure.

Self-forming, self-healing

Nodes discover their neighbors and join the mesh on their own. If a node fails, moves, or gets blocked, traffic reroutes around it automatically — no manual re-configuration.

Ultra-low power

Duty-cycled sleep scheduling keeps radios off most of the time, so nodes can run for years on standard, non-rechargeable batteries.

No central manager

There's no coordinator node and no mains-powered router to install. Every node is a peer, and the mesh keeps working even if any single node disappears.

Scales to thousands

Nodes route through their neighbors instead of a central routing table, so networks grow from tens to thousands of nodes without redesigning the protocol.

Robust RF

Frequency hopping avoids noisy channels and dynamic routing avoids noisy paths, so the mesh keeps data moving even in crowded RF environments.

Secure by design

Every payload is AES-encrypted, and every node must authenticate before it can join — so an unprovisioned device can't silently attach to your network.

Deploy nodes

Stick, mount or bury battery-powered nodes wherever you need data — no cable run and no fixed power required.

Mesh forms itself

Nodes discover each other, agree on routes and start relaying data within minutes of power-on — no manual configuration.

Data flows out

A gateway bridges the mesh to MQTT, the cloud, or a PLC, so the rest of your system sees the data the same way it always has.

Long range option

For deployments that need to cover distance more than density — long, thin sites like pipelines, perimeters or scattered agricultural plots — umesq modules can run an optional LoRa®-modulation physical layer on the sub-GHz band, extending a single hop from hundreds of meters to several kilometers outdoors. It's still umesq's own multi-hop, self-healing mesh routing underneath, not a single-hop star network, so long-range nodes mesh and reroute exactly like standard nodes, just farther apart.
